Mary (Russo) Pastell

Mary Russo Pastell, a lifelong resident of Sleepy Hollow died May 19, 2016 at the age of 104 in the house she was born in. Mary was born in North Tarrytown on October 6, 1911 to Canio and Rosa Scoca Russo. She worked at Yunger’s Bakery on Cortlandt Street for 22 years and then for the Alter Family Bakery for 50 years. Mary married John Pastell on October 28, 1944 at St. Teresa’s Church. He died in 1961. She was also predeceased by her brothers James, Anthony and Joseph, her sister Frances Margotta and her nephew Kenneth Russo. She was a member of the Sleepy Hollow Seniors. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her love and concern for her family and friends and her strong Catholic faith.

She is survived by her nieces Peggy Kraft of Tarrytown, Ann Cisneros of Norfolk, MA, her nephews Robert Margotta of Sleepy Hollow, John Russo of Dobbs Ferry and Raymond Margotta of Munroe, NY as well as many great nieces and nephews. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff of Phelps Hospice especially Digna, Danna, Pat and Patricia. In lieu of flowers donations can be made on Phelps Hospice in her memory.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be at St. Theresa of Avila Church on Monday at 9:30. Interment will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
