Gerald Barbelet

Gerald Barbelet, a lifelong resident of Tarrytown died June 12, 2016 at the age of 71. Jerry was born in New York City on January 6, 1945. He graduated from Transfiguration School and Sleepy Hollow High School.

On November 19, 1966, he married Maureen McGowan in Immaculate Conception Church.

Jerry was retired after a long career with the Village of Tarrytown where he had been the Treasurer. He was well known because of his many community activities. He was a Life Active member of Conqueror Hook and Ladder Co. #1, having received his 50 year badge. He also had served as company president for many years. He was a member of the Rotary Club of the Tarrytowns and the Knights of Columbus St. Elmo Council #318. Jerry was also very active in local sports. He was a die-hard hockey fan who had been the goalie for the SHHS hockey team. He was a founding member of the Sleepy Hollow Hockey Boosters and had coached a summer league hockey team. He was an avid NY Rangers fan as well. He had also been a coach for Dad’s Club for many years.

Jerry is survived by Maureen, his wife of almost 50 years as well as his sons Kevin (Lauren), John (Leigh) and Dennis (Alyssa). He was the proud grandfather of Alexandra, Thea, Stephen, Emma and Aubrey.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Wednesday 4 to 8 PM. His Funeral Mass will be at Transfiguration Church on Thursday at 10:00 with burial to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns, Jerry Barbelet Athletic Fund 200 N. Broadway Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 would be appreciated.
