Trevor Ellis Johnson Obituary

Trevor Ellis Johnson was born on April 3, 1962, in St. Ann’s Bay, and moved to Kingston at the age of six. From a young age, he was involved in his church community, where he sang in the choir at Arnold Road Methodist church.

He attended Mona Primary School and later Calabar High School, graduating in June 1980. During his time at Calabar, he was active in sports, particularly soccer and swimming.

On April 4th, 1988, he migrated to the United States with his brothers, David (Wally) and Douglas (Sonny), to join his mom, Verna Davis (Mumzie), and his other brother, Anthony (Rocky), in pursuit of greater opportunities.

Driven and ambitious, he pursued higher education with the dream of becoming a pilot, attending Teterboro School of Aeronautics. After discovering he was colorblind, he redirected his passion toward civil engineering. He earned an Associate in Science in Engineering Science from Westchester Community College in May 1989 and later a Bachelor of Science from Manhattan College in May 1998. He has been a proud member of the American Society of Civil Engineers since 1995.

Throughout his career, he made lasting contributions to infrastructure and community development. His work included the construction of bridges, schools, railroads, and shopping centers. Among his most notable accomplishments were projects at the Tarrytown Train Station in Tarrytown, NY; Ridge Hill in Yonkers, NY; and portions of Grand Central Terminal in NYC.

On April 25, 1992, he married Karlene Britton, and together, they were blessed with a wonderful daughter, Kayla-Ann Chelsea Johnson, who became the center of his world.

While he achieved many accomplishments throughout his life, his greatest and most cherished role was being a father. He was a devoted, loving, and proud dad—his daughter was his greatest joy, and he poured his heart into raising her. This, above all else, was his proudest accomplishment.

He was also a loving and devoted son who had deep respect and appreciation for his mother, Mumzie. He appreciated her hard work and devotion towards him and his brothers.

He was a caring and supportive brother to Rocky, Wally, and Sonny, sharing a lifelong bond rooted in love and shared memories.

In addition to being a dedicated father, son, and brother, he was a cherished uncle. He shared a special bond with his nieces and nephews, offering guidance, laughter, and unwavering support. They will remember him as a source of strength, warmth, and kindness.

He is survived by his former wife, Karlene; his daughter, Kayla-Ann; his mother, Mumzie; his brothers, Rocky, Wally, and Sonny; his nieces and nephews, Jamel, Renee, David (Alex), and Jannel; and other relatives.

A funeral/memorial service will be held on April 4th, 2026, at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown from 1PM to 3PM with service at 2:30.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
