Susan Vallo Obituary

Susan Hogan Vallo died peacefully on November 7, 2022. She was 78 years old.

Susan was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Patrick and Susan Hogan. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Seamus and John; her daughter, Carol; and her granddaughter, Olivia. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen (Cullen) and her brother, Michael.

Susan is also survived by her husband, Jennaro Vallo of Sleepy Hollow, NY; her four children, Donna (Theall), Jerry, Ida (Morris), and Linda (Queenan); her sons-in-law, Kermit, Daniel, and Michael; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Shauna, Destin, Paige, Jillian, Ben, Riley, Finn, Lilah, Nolan, and Luke, her great-grandchildren, Peter, Amelia, Bentley, Eleanor, Emerson, James, and Ada, and many cherished nieces and nephews in the United States and Ireland. She was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Susan loved her family fiercely. She was strong, funny, compassionate, proud, and kind, and she never met a stranger. She was incredibly wise. She said what she meant and she meant what she said, and she could smell BS from a mile away. Her smile and warmth filled every room. People were drawn to her—it was impossible not to love her.
As a mom, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, she had no equal.
But her most cherished title was ‘Nanny’. She was our Mary Poppins, complete with a lovely accent and a purse filled with magic (in the form of a Ziploc full of sweets). She taught her grandkids how to sip tea and she gave each of them their first piece of gum. When they had sore throats, she gave them red lollipops and promised they would help, and she was right.
She was the loudest fan in the stands and she led the standing Os at their plays. She knit them blankets and hats and mittens and scarves, physical reminders of the warmth of her unending love. She loved their friends, and she was their Nanny, too.
She told them stories of leprechauns and fairies and banshees, and they believed every word.
She was a gem. She was a treasure. She’ll be missed as immensely as she was loved.
Her Funeral Mass will be Saturday November 19th at 10am at St. Augustine's Church in Ossining, NY, followed by interment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
