Sr. Maureen (Sr. de la Salle) Vellon (85) died September 14, 2023, at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown NY. Born in New York City, NY, to Joseph A. and Grace Burchell Vellon, she had been a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 65 years.     

Sr. Maureen taught at Marymount Junior School, Arlington, VA; Marymount School, Barranquilla, Colombia; and St. Bernadette School, Springfield, VA.

She taught at Marymount School of New York before becoming principal of the Junior School. She also taught at St. Anne’s School, Garden City, NY, before becoming principle.

She taught and was later head of school at Marymount International School, Paris, France; principal of All Saints Regional School, Glen Cove, NY; and principal of the Middle School at Istituto Marymount, Rome, Italy.

After ministering in elementary and secondary education, Sr. Maureen retired to Sag Harbor, NY. She later moved to Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, and was living there at the time of her death.

Sr. Maureen is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins and by the members of her religious family.                                                                    

Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Visiting September 18, 4:00 - 7:00 pm with Vigil Service 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, September 19, 10:30 am. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
