Sister Francis of Assisi Kay (96) died Monday, February 6, 2023, at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown NY. She was born Monica Anne Kay in Grand Rapids, MI, on March 31, 1926, to Adam John and Veronica Waitkunas Kay, she had been a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 75 years.
She taught in Italy at Istituto Marymount and Marymount International School, Rome, and in France at Marymount School, Neuilly/Paris. She was a parish minister at Good Shepherd Parish, Brooklyn, NY. In Zambia and Zimbabwe, she served in mission work, as diocesan religious education coordinator and lecturer in a teacher training college, and in holistic services.
A certified massage therapist, she ministered in Wholistic Growth Program, Little Falls, MN, Professional Massage Center, St. Paul, MN, and Zimbabwe. She was living at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, at time of her death.
Predeceased by her parents and brothers, William and Francis. Survived by her sister, Nora McLaughlin, brother, Rodney, and sisters-in-law, Diane Kay and Ruth Kay, nieces and nephews, and by the members of her religious community.
Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Visiting Wednesday February 8, 4:00 - 7:00 pm with Vigil Service 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, February 9, 10:30 am. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
