Sr. Christine Marian, RSHM (98) died peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY. Born in New York City, NY, to Joseph B. and Ophelia Marian, she had been a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 78 years. 

Her first ministry was at Marymount, Rome, teaching in the Italian School and International School. She returned to Istituto Marymount in Rome several times, once as teacher and assistant principal and twice to work in the business office at the school. Sr. Christine also served at the RSHM Generalate in Rome as assistant to the General Secretary and the General Treasurer.

She taught in Colombia at Marymount Schools in Medellin and Bogota and taught and was assistant principal at Escuela de la Madre Butler in Baranquilla.

Sr. Christine taught at Marymount College, Tarrytown, and at Marymount Schools in New York City, Arlington, VA, and Tarrytown. She taught at Fr. Lopez High School, Daytona Beach, FL and St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, Bronx, NY.

She worked in business offices at Marian Center and the RSHM Provincial Center in Tarrytown, and in the school business office at St. Catherine’s Academy, Bronx, NY. For a short time, she served on the staff of the Leviticus Fund, Yonkers NY.

In 2011, she moved to Marymount Convent, Tarrytown. She was a member of the Convent community at the time of her death.

Sister Christine is survived by her niece, Lindsey Svetlay, and grandnieces Allison Pinholster, Shannon Townsend, Maeve Hauswald, and by the members of her religious family.                                                           

Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Visiting Friday, October 4, 2024, 4:00 - 7:00 pm with Vigil Service 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 5, 2024, 10 am. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
