Shirley (Gagnon) Marmo

Shirley Marmo, age 87, a resident of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown for more than 60 years, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on November 7, 1938, to Rose Thibodeau Gagnon and Albert Gagnon in Caribou, Maine a French/Quebecer speaking Community where she lived with her family working on a potato farm. She moved to North Tarrytown in her 20s to live with friends who were part of the French Canadian community in North Tarrytown. She married Bill “Red the barber” Marmo in 1961.

Shirley was a mother who dedicated her life to her family raising 3 children with endless love and creating a stable home. She was known for her love of reading and developed a comfort from watching old game shows. She taught us the importance of kindness, the joy in small things, and found her greatest happiness in her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her sister Jeanne Gagnon Whalen, her children: Anthony Marmo, Diana Marmo Spence and Tina Marmo Caruso; her son-in-law Ronald Spence and her grandchildren: Michael Hanlon, Liam Marmo, Danny Heiss, Hailey Heiss and Kaitlyn Caruso.
