Paul A. Walter died on February 5, 2023 following a short illness. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held in June in Tarrytown, NY. Paul was the first son of Mary and Henry (Hank) Walter and he grew up in both The Bronx and in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He held an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies, Culinary Arts, from The Culinary Institute of America.
Paul worked for many years as a chef at the Chart House in Dobbs Ferry, where he became part of an enduring "family of friends" that still meets for reunions every year. As Restaurant Manager and Chef, Paul opened multiple Chart House restaurants across the country, and, in later years, he did the same for Ruth's Chris Steak House in Manhattan, Westchester, California and New Jersey, and for Austin’s Steakhouse in Brooklyn.
In 1989, Paul was so proud to open his own seafood restaurant called Shells Seafood & Spirits in Encinitas, CA. Paul was an amazing chef and he loved to cook and to feed people. In 2003, he began accounting work for Serena Bass Catering, and in 2007 he began working for Eurotech Construction Company as Payables and Purchasing Supervisor. He was a hard-working and beloved employee in all of his positions.
Paul loved the ocean and looked forward to returning to the beach in his retirement. He was a kind, caring, thoughtful man, a dedicated son and brother, and a proud uncle and godfather. He loved playing pinochle with his father and siblings, and loved playing any game with his nieces and nephews. All who knew him are devastated that he is gone.
Paul is survived by his seven siblings: Mary (Rick) Clarfeld, Elizabeth (Jack Ryan) Walter, John Walter, Ann (Peter) Royston, Mark (Jezebel) Walter, Catherine Walter and Ruth (Kevin McNeill) Walter; ten nieces and nephews: Cody (Lori), Molly Rose, Nicholas (Olivia), Emily, Gabriel, William, Timothy, Claire, Andrew and Laura, and one great-niece, Josie.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul’s memory to:
