Michael P. Zaicek

Michael P. Zaicek, Jr., a lifelong resident of Sleepy Hollow passed away on September 6, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Tarrytown on January 3, 1936, he was the son of Michael P and Ernestine (Bena) Zaicek.

Michael attended North Tarrytown schools. From there, Mike enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served on the USS Intrepid. Following his service, he went to work at General Motors where he met Norma who became his loving wife of 64 years. Then for a short time, he worked for the Village of North Tarrytown. It was after that he began a 32 year career with the Village of Pleasantville Police Department, retiring as Provisional Chief of Police.  In addition to his career in law enforcement, Mike also had various “B” jobs including his own moving company. He also worked in paving, roofing, plowing and even as a lumberjack. He loved to golf and he was also an avid gardener as well as a passionate NY Giants fan. Mike was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries 1042 in Sleepy Hollow where he enjoyed the camaraderie of many good friends.

All who knew him will remember he was a great storyteller. His family and friends are grateful for his long and joy filled life. 

Nothing gave Mike more pleasure than being with this family. He was a loving husband, father and devoted grandfather. Mike is survived by his beloved wife Norma (Ciancaglini), his son Michael (Deanna) and his daughter Donna (Ben Gonzalez) and his cherished grandchildren Katrina, Michael, Benjamin, Trevor, Brandon, Marissa and Steven. Also surviving are his sisters Amelia Schlosser, Marianne (Tom ‘Red’) Malone and Josie Marasco as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Steven and his wife Catherine Kadner, his brother Joseph and his brothers-in-law Eugene Schlosser and Carl Marasco.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 4PM to 8PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Friday at Transfiguration Church at 10:30 followed by interment with Naval Honors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
