Mary Nigro was born Mary Duthie on July 31, 1937 in Dundee, Scotland to William and Helen Duthie. She passed away after several years of poor health on May 16, 2022.
Mary emigrated to the United States in the late 1950’s and became a United States citizen in January 1964. She met Robert Nigro while they were both employed at Otis Elevator, and were married on August 22, 1964 in Yonkers, NY.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved family gatherings and always strove to bring people together. She was a devout Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ossining for over forty years, teaching Sunday School, participating in prayer teams, contributing and assisting countless coffee hours and functions, and enjoying and enriching the fellowship of her church family. She prayed constantly for her family and did her level best to try to bring the conversation back to God whenever discussing real-life struggles and challenges. In the later years of her life, when suffering from poor health resulting in many stays in hospitals and finally the nursing home, the number of times and places where visiting family members were told “Your mom is such a sweet woman” or “We love Mary!” or “She is a real pleasure” are too numerous to count. She was a special, kind soul and we will miss her greatly.
Mary was predeceased by husband Robert on April 9, 2020 after almost 56 years of marriage. A brother, William, died earlier. She is survived by three children: daughter Beth (Ossining), son William (Patterson, NY) and son Anthony (Sleepy Hollow, NY), and also five grandchildren: Crystal, John, Erika, Olivia and Anna.
