Mary Ballas Middleton, 104 years young, peacefully passed on April 17, 2025, surrounded by love at her home in Cortlandt Manor, New York. Mommy was born in Heilwood, PA on January 30, 1921 to Blaze and Agatha Ballas. They moved their growing family to North Tarrytown, NY where Mary, the oldest of 8, spent her youth. She was very involved with the Sokol Club and loved to sing! In 1942, Mommy joined the WACS and was stationed in Tallahassee, Florida.
At the end of her service, she returned to New York and worked at the Layup Fleet in Stony Point where she met our father Joe. They were married in 1949.
They eventually settled in Irvington, NY where they brought up their four children, Stephen Douglas, Pattie (Eric Siefka), Pamela (Carl Dollhausen), and Mary Jo. Her later years were filled with joy upon the arrivals of her two grandchildren Tianna (Evan Panken) and JD* (Nikki). Along with their many friends, they kept her spirit young, lovingly giving her the title Gmilly!* She became Mom and Grandma to so many. She is survived by her sister Frances Murray and her sister-in-law Marie Ballas along with countless nieces and nephews and recently a grand nephew Benjamin Blaise and grand niece Olivia Frances. Mommy was very strong in her faith. Her purpose became praying for others. She was a huge fan of sports with devotion to the New York Yankees, Duke Men's Basketball, and The Baltimore Ravens. She loved her Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, Oregon, clams on the half shell and Chincoteaque oysters, the beach, nature, and her buddy Charlie.
Mommy lived a simple life, but lived life to the fullest.
She always had a big smile for you and was often spunky and sassy and sharp. She ended her conversations with take care, I love you, be safe.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 4PM to 8PM. Her funeral mass will be on Friday at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington followed by interment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
