Marion (Lofaro) Losier Obituary

Marion Lofaro Losier of Campbell Hall, NY, formerly of Sleepy Hollow, NY passed away November 18, 2024. She was 92.

Marion was the daughter of the late John and Mary Lofaro. She was born in North Tarrytown on April 22, 1932. She was a North Tarrytown High School graduate and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Marymount College. Marion loved being around children. Being a teacher was a natural fit for her. She taught at Transfiguration School in her early years, having a class as large as 55 students.

In 1965, she married Robert Losier, who predeceased her in 1998. They started their family quickly and would have 4 children in under 2 years. Bill, Bob (Sandy), Grace (Patrick Gerdin) and Barbara (Ray Gori) were lovingly known around town as the Losier twins. Marion would often say she felt a little like a freak show but loved getting the kids out for fresh air daily with the help of her dear friend, Barbara Stevens. She also had many nieces and nephews, especially Jeanne Marie Arduino, who would volunteer to help her as they knew Aunt Marion was a great baker and made the best meatballs in town.

After many years of being home with her children, Marion went back to teaching, first at St Teresa School, and then for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns. She was a beloved

kindergarten teacher for over 20 years until she retired in 1998. If you had Mrs. Losier, you knew you were a part of her family for life.

In her pre-and post-retirement years, Marion loved to knit. She formed a group that would meet at her house known as the “Knit-Wits”. She would make baby outfits for family, friends and even former students. She enjoyed knitting blankets, gloves, scarves and hats for her grandchildren, but she was most famous for her slippers that she would make for anyone who would ask.

Marion also enjoyed the times she spent with her many dear friends, especially Santa Lofaro, who was always good for a cup of coffee, sweet treat, and a listening ear. Her “Pastry Chef” crew also gave her something to look forward to on weekday mornings as they would discuss the good ole days over a pastry and a hot beverage. (Many thanks to Maria for always checking up on Marion and for the treats you provided.)

The true “lights of her life” were her 5 grandchildren: Tom, Emily, Danielle (Derek Leiter), David Gerdin, and Adriana Losier. She enjoyed spoiling them rotten. They have many fond memories at Nanny’s house eating chocolate, goldfish and drinking lots of chocolate milk while watching movies in her bed, something she never would have let her 4 children do. They would take many trips to the park and would enjoy taking a walk and seeing what a real celebrity their Nanny was as former students and parents of former students would stop her just to chat and remind her of what a blessing she was in their lives. Marion was truly beloved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her 4 children, 5 grandchildren, 1 grandson-in-law, her sisters Anne Taylor, Jeanne Arduino, and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin Barbara Lofaro in 2014.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday November 21 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be Friday at Transfiguration Church at 10:30 followed by interment in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
