Maria Josefa Obregon was born on August 5th 1932 in Guayos, Cuba. She passed away at home, peacefully into God's hands on June 16th, 2020. Maria grew up on an idyllic farm in Cuba referred to as “La Piedra”. She would speak of life there often, and it was a home filled with love, one in which extended family was always around. In 1959 she came to Tarrytown and her courtship with her husband, Teonilio (Cari) Obregon began, they returned to Cuba in January of 1960 and married. Over the next 60 years, they continued to build their lives in Tarrytown—their second home and one which she had also developed a deep love and connection to—welcoming 3 children and later 9 grandchildren.
Maria is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Remberto, Nene and Irma. Maria is survived by her siblings Siria, Angel, Beba and Cachita. Maria is survived by her three devoted children, James (Alessandra) Obregon, Richard (Lori) Obregon, and Anna (Michael) Parenti. While also raising her children, she spent 25 years as an employee of Bayer. In her later years, Maria was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren Richard, Sarah (Jesse), Katie, Nicole, Olivia, Grayson, Cameron, Sebastian, and Alessandra, who lovingly referred to her as Yeya. Maria served as matriarch to the Obregon family and she will be forever missed. Maria was always deeply devoted to family and her Catholic faith, which remained closest to her heart throughout her life. Her compassionate and caring nature left a lasting impression on all she met, and we will carry her always in our hearts the way she carried us in hers.
