Maria Arlete (Santiago) Constantino Obituary

Maria Arlete Constantino, a longtime resident of Tarrytown, died peacefully at home on October 18, 2025. She was 89 years old. Born in Sangalhos, Portugal on March 5, 1936, she was the daughter of Manuel and Carmina (Ferreira) Santiago.

In 1957, she married Alfredo Constantino in Portugal. Not long after that, the couple moved to Brazil where the first three of their children were born. In 1968, the family moved back to Portugal for a short time prior to coming to the United States in 1970. Being a talented seamstress, Maria took a job at Charter Sportswear in Tarrytown until her youngest child was born. Over the years she also worked at Duracell and Phelps Hospital all while raising her four children.

Maria was also a wonderful gardener, always tending to her beautiful flowers. She was a proud member of the local Portuguese community and the Portuguese American Cultural Center in Tarrytown.

Maria will be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and she is survived by her children Alfredo Jr. (Nancy)Constantino, Cristina (Victor) Simoes, Paulo (Carmen) Constantino and Elizabeth (Enrique) Jurado, her grandchildren Cristina, AJ, Joe, Nick, Paulo, Sara, Sofia, Marco and Alena. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Lacey, Haley, Camila, Landon and Colin as well as her twin sister Marina.  Her husband Alfredo died in 2010 and she was also predeceased by her brothers Antonio and Arlindo.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5PM to 8 PM. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at St. Teresa of Avila Church at 10:00 with burial to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
