Dr. Manuel Sanguily, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and Doctor died November 15, 2022, from complications of COVID with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.
Manuel was Born Feb 7, 1933, Havana Cuba was the son of Caridad Bentancourt Sanguily and Dr. Julio Sanguily.
Manuel attended Hackley school until graduation of high school in 1950.
Manuel represented Cuba in the 1952/56 Olympics. He swam Breaststroke. In 1954 he won a gold medal in The Pam American Games.
When Fidel Castro closed Havana Medical School, he transitioned to Ohio State Medical School. Where he met his future wife.
He married Mary Jo (Smith) Sanguily October 29,1960 in Circleville Oh.
Manuel is survived by daughter Nina Weireter (Clayton Liehr) and her children Sarah, Gabriella and Matthew (Alyssa) and his great grandson Raylan; his son Mani and his sons Alex and Jackson and his son Robert (Monica Greisdorn) and their children Caroline, Michael, Will, Craig.
Manuel was well known for swimming across the Hudson River to raise awareness for Asthma. Which was a condition he suffered from his entire life.
He practiced Family Medicine in Circleville Ohio, until moving his family to Tarrytown NY in 1967 where he continued in private practice until retirement. The love he had for his patients, The Hudson River, Cuban community, competitive swimming, gave him all the joy in his life.
A memorial service will be held after the first of the year.
