Lillian Marie (Ryan) Rice Obituary
Lillian Marie Rice of Briarcliff Manor, New York, peacefully passed away on February 25, 2026.
Born in the Bronx to the late Stephen and Elizabeth Ryan, Marie was the youngest of three children and was predeceased by her beloved brothers, Stephen and William.
In 1960, she married Bernard “Red” Rice, and together they built a home grounded in faith, resilience, and unconditional love. They raised two children, Susan and James, and devoted themselves wholeheartedly to their family. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Bernard, and her son James.
For many years, Marie worked at the Westchester School for Special Children. As the mother of a son with special needs, she brought profound empathy, compassion, and understanding to her work. Caring for others was not simply her profession — it was her calling.
Faith was the cornerstone of Marie’s life. She was a parishioner at St. Barnabas Church in the Bronx and later at St. Augustine Church in Ossining, New York. Her abiding faith guided her through life’s joys and sorrows and was reflected in her kindness, generosity, and steadfast devotion to her family and community.
Marie is survived by her loving daughter Susan and her husband James Cavanagh; her adored grandchildren Daniel, Kerry (Nathan Hall), and Catherine; as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be held at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1st from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church in Ossining, New York.
She will be remembered always for her warmth, her compassion, and her unwavering dedication to those she held dear.
