We celebrate the life of Lawrence (Larry) Verdi, who passed away on Monday, December 20. Our wonderful Larry was born on March 4, 1952 to Lena and Angelo Verdi. He was a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School, where he met the love of his life, Melissa (Mascia), and together they lived a full life in Sleepy Hollow. His community meant a great deal to Larry. He worked in several roles for the Village of Sleepy Hollow DPW until he retired in 2001 and also served as an auxiliary firefighter.
A fixture at the former Horseman Diner and in front of Tornello’s Service Station, Larry will be remembered by friends for his humor, his knowledge of all things mechanical, and his hats. Larry took great pride in the many vintage cars that he restored and preserved in his home garage. A motorcycle enthusiast, Larry also enjoyed riding with Melissa and his friends.
Family was everything to Larry. His greatest joy in life was his son, Christopher, who he was so proud of. He also dearly loved his sister Diane, who gave him the precious gift of more time with his family. At his home garage, he spent time with his brother Tom and many friends (particularly those who delivered mail to the house, Boozlie, Al Bal, and the Chief).
Larry is survived by his wife Melissa, son Christopher Verdi (girlfriend Brittney Pierri), sister Diane Verdi, brother Tom Verdi (Nancy Green), nieces Lia Verdi Mueller (husband Sam) and Reagan Verdi. He is also survived by his dear Aunt Filomena Fallacaro, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Out of an abundance of caution, the funeral will be limited to immediate family members and friends that safely can attend. Services will be at 10 am Tuesday at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Larry’s memory to:
