Julia M. O’Meara Rosson, 105, lifelong Irvington resident, died Friday December 23,2022 at Andrus Health Center, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. She was born to Mary Ellen Dawson and John Peter O’Meara on March 8, 1917, in Irvington, New York. Julia was born on Buckhout Street and lived her life on the same street. She attended Irvington schools. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception School, June 1931 and from Irvington High School June 1935.
Through her cousin Matthew Smith who died in World War Two, she would meet John A. Rosson from Manhattan. They married June 23, 1946, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Irvington. They had four children – Father John Peter Rosson of Bethlehem, New Hampshire, Mary Ellen (James) Constantino of Middletown, Delaware, Michael Francis Rosson of Irvington and a special son, Dennis Jerome Rosson of Pound Ridge, New York.
After brief stints working at Philips Foto, she dedicated her life to home and family. Her home became a lifelong treasure as well as her children. A breast cancer survivor, she faced health challenges with courage and steadfast spirit.
In addition to her husband who predeceased her in 2004, she was predeceased by her siblings John P. O'Meara, Catherine E. O'Meara, William J. O'Meara, Mary E. O'Meara and Margaret O'Meara.
Visitation hours Thursday, December 29 from 9:30 -11:30 am at Coffey Funeral Home, 91 Broadway, Tarrytown, New York
As a lifelong communicant of Irvington’s Immaculate Conception Church, a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, Noon, December 29 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Irvington, with her son Father John P. Rosson, officiating and Father Andrew W. Cryans of Durham, New Hampshire, homilist. Interment will be in the family plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
