Joseph R. Stasko died of myelodysplasia on May 7, 2020 at his home in Tarrytown, NY, at the age of 84. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on June 6, 1935, the fourth in a family of five boys born to Carl John and Rose Ton Stasko.
After more than seven years serving in the Air Force and three more in the Army, Joe moved to New York City in 1963. That fall, in search of more peaceful surroundings, he took a job raking leaves at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry. He remained employed there for over 47 years, marrying and raising a family on campus. Over the years he served the school as Housekeeping Supervisor, Plant and Security Manager, and Facilities Manager, retiring in 2011.
Though he came to it rather late, Joe was a doting father, and loved nothing more than skipping stones on the Hudson with his boys. He enjoyed hiking and travel, and remained forever a loyal Steelers fan like his brothers in Pittsburgh.
Joseph is survived by his wife Jennifer Herrick Stasko, his brothers John, Charles, and Kenneth Stasko, and his two sons Timon Herrick Stasko and Cory Edan Stasko. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Raymond Stasko.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to charities helping those in need to get through our current difficult times, such as Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, or a local food bank.
