Joseph E. Balthazard Obituary

Joe was born in Albany, NY on March 27, 1936 to the late Emile and Grace (Nonamaker) Balthazard.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Emile Balthazard, Jr., and Mary Marks.

Joe graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany in 1954 as a Cadet Captain and was awarded the company commander's medal. He played multiple high school sports, including varsity track, and had a starring role in the senior play. In 1956 he married the ‘love of his life’, Jean (Rosette) and embarked on a romance that lasted 67 years. In 1962, after having two sons, Mark and Brian, the young family moved from Albany and settled in Tarrytown. Joe had a long 37-year career with what was then the New York Telephone Company. He started out in Albany installing phones by climbing telephone poles. In the early 1960’s Joe seized an opportunity in NYC to get in on the ground floor of efforts to utilize computers to modernize customer billings. After he retired, he worked part time as a Real Estate Agent for the Tarrytown Real Estate company. Joe was an avid golfer and spent many hours in his retirement on the links with Jean, including during their annual winters spent in Florida. Joe was a long-time member of the Transfiguration Church choir, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Tarrytown Seniors, Sleepy Hollow Seniors, and Transfiguration Seniors. Joe was outgoing and friendly, and well-liked by everyone he met.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean P. Balthazard, and his sons, Mark (Eileen) Balthazard of Needham, MA and Brian (Geralyn) Balthazard of Tarrytown, NY. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren: Kate (A.J.) Garcia, Julie (Joseph) Fiore, Laura Balthazard (fiance Martin), Christopher (Amber) Balthazard and Samuel Balthazard (fiance Meghan) . He waspredeceased by his grandson, Brian James Balthazard. He is also great-grandfather to Riley, Luke, Penny and Logan Fiore, and Briana and Jackson Garcia.

Joe spent his final two years at Brightview Assisted Living in Tarrytown and the family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the loving aides, nurses, and staff who greatly enhanced his life and treated him like family.
