Obituary
Joan Margaret Sullivan Dunnings passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18th, 2023. She was born February 15, 1939 in Tarrytown, New York to Edward F. and Ruth L. Sullivan. She married Thomas J. Dunnings, Jr. on July 17th, 1960 at St. George’s Chapel in Mohegan Lake, New York. He predeceased her on September 29, 1993. She is survived by two sons, Thomas III (Rita) of Yorktown Heights, NY, and Jeffrey (Dina) of Tarrytown, NY. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kenneth (Samantha), Caitlin, Michael, Ryan and Spencer Dunnings, and Nicholas DeFlumere. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Grady and Fallon Dunnings.
Joan was a graduate of North Tarrytown High School, class of 1957. She was a member of the Tarrytown Volunteer ambulance corps, and a founding member of Conqueror Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Christiana General Insurance of Norway in Tarrytown. She was an avid knitter and crocheter, and loved watching old western movies.
Joan is predeceased by her parents and her sister Gail Gorey. Services will be private, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Phelps Hospital Northwell Health Palliative/Hospice Care in her name.
