Joan Curry, 86, of Sleepy Hollow, New York, a longtime educator & counselor, died December 5, 2022. A devout Catholic, Joan truly lived her Christian faith. She was blessed with a rich, meaningful, full life, always ready to offer help and support her friends, neighbors, and family. She embodied a generosity and selflessness of spirit throughout her entire life. Joan was born 1936 in Bronx, New York to Elizabeth and John Curry. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her beloved sister, Margaret Flynn. Joan graduated from Hunter College and went on to receive her Masters in Elementary Education and a Masters in Education Guidance. After graduating, Joan began her dedication to becoming a lifetime educator & guidance counselor for the New York Public School system. In addition, Joan attained specialized certifications in teaching visually impaired children and taught them for several years.

Joan is survived by her beloved nieces Ellen Sama, Mary Andrachik and nephew Duane Flynn. Grandnieces Nicolette Andrachik, Sophia Sama and Dakota Flynn. Grandnephew Dylan Flynn. Devoted Goddaughter & Cousin Lori Finnegan, her husband Pat, and their children Michael, Patrick, and Caitlin Hamilla, beloved Goddaughter. Also surviving is her aunt Theresa Moffett of Sheffield, England.

A lifelong world traveler, Joan visited all seven continents, over 30 foreign nations and every state of the United States, usually with friends and family. Joan excelled at supporting not only her family but also her friends and colleagues through the many highlights and difficulties of their lives. Whether that was providing guidance to family, friends, and students, she made it her mission to improve the lives of others.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 17 at 10 am at The Church of the Magdalene, 525 Bedford Rd, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591.
