Jill E. Muller of Tarrytown and formerly of Irvington died peacefully at home on September 23, 2023. She was 65. Born in Bedford, England on January 30, 1958, she was the daughter of Alan Joseph and Rosemary Mabel (Lightfoot) Crawley. Jill was raised in Bedford where she attended The Dame Alice Harpur school and where she married Claud Muller on October 25, 1980. Shortly before the birth of their first child, the couple moved to the United States and eventually settled in Irvington where they welcomed their second child three years later. Jill attended Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree. She continued her education at Columbia University on a Mellon scholarship, culminating with her PhD in English Literature. She went on to have a very fulfilling career as a Professor of English Literature at Columbia University and Professor of Drama at The Cooper Union for advancement of science and art.
Jill was a woman of deep faith, and she was deeply devoted to the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary sisters of Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She enjoyed spending time with them and sharing her faith with them. She also went on to become a Certified Spiritual Director.
Jill also loved animals and had a particular fondness for cats, dogs and wolves. She especially enjoyed time spent as a volunteer at Paws Crossed in Elmsford.
Jill is survived by her loving sister Julie Crawley (Graham Saunders) and their daughter Catherine Saunders. Also survived by her daughters Vanessa Bangser (Greg) and Sophie Muller (Matt Arvotti) and her granddaughters Clara Rosalie Arvotti, Lillian Hannah Arvotti, Malissa Marie Bangser, Jailene Ivette Bangser, Paola Emperatriz Bangser and Tynasia Jonette Bangser. In addition, she is survived by her niece Joanne Herzberg and nephew Michael Herzberg as well as her dear friend Theresa Gaffney. Her husband Claud predeceased her in 2015.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday September 28 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Marymount Convent on Friday at 10:00 AM followed by burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
