Jeanne K. (Kamp) Mansfield Obituary

Jeanne K. Mansfield of Ossining, a mother grandmother, caregiver, and overall force of nature who embodied the spirit of the Greatest Generation died peacefully on Jan. 18, 2026 at the age of 99 yrs, 11 months.

Jeanne Griffith Kamp was born in Ossining, NY to Walter R. Kamp and Anna M. Daly. Jeanne’s Grandmother, Nellie Griffith Kamp was and remained very significant in her development, due to mother’s health issues.

Following The Great Depression, When World War Two upended her and her classmates experience in Ossining High School, she completed early coursework graduating High School early, and entered a local Ossining Squire Business School for secretarial training, while working as a nurses aid in Ossining Hospital. Jeanne spent most of the war as a pen pal to her classmates and updated them to fellow classmates status and whereabouts.

In July 1947 she married former classmate Harry E. Mansfield, kicking off a 63 year love story, that produced one son, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren and counting.

They made their life in the Town of Ossining, Harry a volunteer Firefighter and Ex Captain for over 50 years with Independent Hose Company. Harry was a Builder and Electrician by Trade, who later made a Career with NY Telephone. Jeanne rose to the position of Executive Assistant to Reader’s Digest publication general manager, Albert Cole. After taking time to raise a family in 1957, she returned to workforce in the early 70’s as a legal assistant, a role she loved because she could work with other analytical, quick witted, tenacious, minds.

Harry and Jeanne spent most of their golden years living in a riverfront home they built in the Adirondacks, a Kamp Family Camp in the Catskills, and winters in Largo, Florida, enjoying the full benefits of all areas including friends, but not before hunting season.

After Harry’s death in 2011 Jeanne lived in Croton with her grandson Matthew and his wife Jennifer. Later she resided with her son Kurt and his wife Danielle, in Wappingers Falls, NY.

As sad as the family is to say goodbye to their matriarch, they are heartened to know that she will be reunited with Harry after 15 years.

She is survived by her son Kurt and his wife Danielle of Wappingers, Her grandson Matthew and wife Jennifer of Croton, Her Grandson Ross of Houston Texas, Granddaughter Tiffany of Houston Texas, and Granddaughter Erin and Husband William of Columbus, Ohio, and 7 great grandchildren.
