Jean L. (Vocat) Cerbone

November 3, 1947 ~ November 4, 2021 (age 74)

Obituary

Jean Leslie Cerbone (née Vocat) died on November 4th, 2021, at the age of seventy-four at her home in Tarrytown, NY. Jean was born on November 3rd, 1947, to Joseph and Mary Jane (Graves) Vocat in Chicago, IL. She worked as a computer programmer and web developer until her retirement, which she spent sewing and caring for her granddaughters.

A prolific and generous quilter, Jean held herself blessed to provide the gift of warmth, not only to her loved ones but also to theirs in turn. Her patterns, inspired by 19th-century American designs, received an international following, and in 2019 she published Dearest Boy: A Family Album. She was humble and, when praised, would thank the Lord for allowing her to make beautiful things. She delighted in her country, finely crafted things, and the flowers in her husband’s garden. She laughed, and she looked for laughter to share.

Jean is mourned by her husband William A. Cerbone; her children George, Kristin, and Will; her granddaughters Violet, Angelina, and Antonia; and her brother Jon. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother Joe.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 52 North Broadway, White Plains, NY, on Monday, November 8th, 2021. A wake will be held from 4:00–5:00 pm with a Mass to follow.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the:
