James F. Dowling Obituary
James Francis Dowling, 88, of Vestal, New York, passed away peacefully on March 21, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 16, 1937, in the Bronx, New York, Jim lived a full and meaningful life grounded in faith, family, and quiet strength.
Jim was a man who loved the Lord deeply, a faith that guided him throughout his life and especially through his remarkable journey of 55 years of sobriety—an accomplishment he carried with humility and grace.
He dedicated 39 years of his career to Con Edison as a licensed land surveyor, where he was respected for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic. In the fall of 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves at Fort Dix, New Jersey where he proudly served his country.
Outside of work, Jim found joy in the simple things—time spent fly fishing, days on the golf course, and moments shared with those he loved.
Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Anne (Singer) Dowling; his son, James F. Dowling Jr. (Jodi); and his daughter, Kelly LaPicola (Bill). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Nicholas LaPicola and Ally LaPicola, who brought him immense joy.
Jim was predeceased by his father, Daniel J. Dowling Sr.; his mother, Anna Regina (Pataky) Dowling; and his brother, Daniel J. Dowling Jr.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to those who cared for Jim with compassion and dignity.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his strength of character, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
