Isilda C Miranda, 89, of Sleepy Hollow, NY, passed away the early morning of January 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving son, after her battle with breast cancer.

Isilda was born January 26, 1935, in Senhora da Estrada, Portugal, daughter of the late Deolinda Costa and Jose Augusto Costa. She was one of seven siblings. On September 14, 1969, she married Morais da Almeida Miranda in Aveiro, Portugal and they legally immigrated to America soon after.

Isilda was a professional Seamstress and worked for many years at Merl Industries in Tarrytown, NY. She then created her own seamstress business working together with her sister-in- law until she retired.

Isilda spent many years as an active member of the Portuguese American Cultural Center in Tarrytown, New York.  

Isilda was a loving mother and sister to her dear sisters and brothers who she loved dearly.

Isilda was very talented in knitting and sewing and throughout her life would constantly make clothing or alterations as needed for her husband and son as well as beautiful bed covers, table coverings and other creations.

Isilda was an avid fan of the hockey team New York Rangers and Portuguese futbol team Benfica whom she shared her passion with her son.

Isilda is survived by her son Morais C Miranda of Ossining, NY, her Sisters Alegria Matos, Benilde Alves and Lia Lapa and brother Antonio Costa as well as many nieces and nephews.

Isilda was predeceased by her husband Morais A. Miranda, her brother Joao Costa and sister Elvira Camillo.

Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME 91 No. Broadway, Tarrytown (914) 631-0983 on Wednesday January 22 from 4-8pm.  Her Funeral Mass will be on Thursday January 23 at St. Teresa of Avila Church Sleepy Hollow, NY at 10:00am with internment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
