Irene M. Amato, a lifelong resident of North Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow died October 17, 2022 at the age of 92.

She was born and raised in North Tarrytown; was the daughter of Alexander and Helen Meszaros Evans. She was a member of the Class of 1947 at North Tarrytown High School. Irene was very active in planning NT High School Reunions and Events that brought her classmates and friends back together. 

In 1954, she began working for the Village of North Tarrytown where she served as Treasurer, Tax Collector and Deputy Registrar. She retired after 60 years with the Village.

Irene was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a founding member and former president of the North Tarrytown Seniors; a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary; a volunteer at Phelps Memorial Hospital and a member of the Neighborhood House in Tarrytown.  

Irene was married to William S. Amato who predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters Sandra M. Amato (Lou), Sharon A. Benedict (Tom) and Barbara A. Hartigan (Charles) as well as her grandchildren William (Tara) McGough and Lyndsay McGough. Also surviving is her sister Elizabeth (James) Stanton and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Grace Galgano. She was very close to all the members of her Family. She spoke to them often and attended all Family Events. 

Irene telephoned her friends and family almost daily! She was known to speak for hours to many friends including her longtime friend and Village of NT co-worker, Ms. Filomena Fallacaro. The Family would like to thank all of her friends who called, sent cards, flowers and stayed in touch with Irene throughout the past few years. One friend noted that Irene was "An Amazing Lady"           

Visitation will be Monday October 24th from 3PM to 7PM at Coffey Funeral Home where services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00. Interment will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
