Helene T. Hyland Obituary

Helene Teresa Hyland was born on August 12, 1947 to Maurice and Mary Sheridan Hyland. She was the fifth child in a sibling group of seven.  She attended St Teresa’s and Sleepy Hollow schools. Helene was employed by Mallory Battery Factory for many years and was one of the star players of their bowling league. Helene enjoyed meeting new people and her outgoing personality led to her many years of work as a waitress including Bella’s restaurant in Tarrytown.

A lifelong resident of The Tarrytowns and Irvington, Helene moved to Pennsylvania with her love, John Ruffler and their daughter Jacqueline where she enjoyed a happy life with John playing music on his guitar and writing songs for her: One of her favorite lyrics by John: “She’s like a feather drifting on a gentle breeze, loves being free and the only thing she truly knows is loving you and me”.  Helene returned to her hometown after John’s passing.

Leaving to cherish her beautiful spirit are her son, Joseph Ramos, daughters Maria Tripp and Jacqueline Ruffler, grandchildren Christina Martinez, Frisco Ramos, Tiana Ramos, Matteo Ramos, Giada Ramos, Jason Hook, Logan Ruffler, step grandchildren Kayla, Noah and Nolan Vech. Sisters, Kathleen Buckhout and Maureen Flores, brother, Thomas Hyland, sister in law Marion Hyland and brother in law Wilfredo Flores. Step-children John, Joey, Jimmy and Janet as well as many devoted nieces and nephews and dear cousins.

Helene is predeceased by her husband John Ruffler, siblings Patricia Putorti, Michael Hyland and Mary Jane Hyland.
