Gloria (Riverso) Agro

Gloria Catherine Riverso Agro, a longtime resident of Tarrytown, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, March 29, 2024 at the age of 90. Born in White Plains on December 16, 1933, Gloria was the daughter of Catherine (Citino) and Joseph Riverso.

Gloria, a loving mother and devoted grandmother, was well known in Tarrytown for her many church, school and community activities.  Gloria graduated from Good Council College and received her master’s degree from New Paltz Teacher’s College, where she earned a Ford Foundation grant. After college, she taught at Thornwood Elementary School.  As she raised her family, she taught at Transfiguration School where she was a well-loved third grade teacher for over 20 years.  She also taught religious education there, running the First Communion classes for many years.  Most Sundays, Gloria, along with her husband Louis, could be found on the altar of Transfiguration Church both as Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers.  Mom also devoted time to the community of Tarrytown and was active in the Neighborhood House and St Vincent de Paul society and the Historical Society.

Above all, Gloria loved her family and her wide circle of friends. Sunday dinner was always filled with love and an abundance of her Italian cooking. Mom relished hearing the adventures her 9 grandchildren, whether it was sporting events or activities at school.   Gloria is survived by her four sons, Louis (Camille) of Irvington, Joseph (Irene) of Tarrytown, Paul (Lori) of Middletown, NJ and Thomas (Dawn) of North Greenbush, NY. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, Louis, James, Katelyn, Michael, Olivia, Sophia, Kacey, Lindsay and Matthew, as well as her sisters Diana Regan and Joanmarie (Paul) Musico   and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2 from 4pm-8pm. Her funeral mass will be on Wednesday, April 3 at 10:30am at Transfiguration Church, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
