Gisela E. Carlson passed away peacefully on June 2, 2021, at the age of 93 at Aynsley Place in Nashua, NH. Born on July 24,1927, in Wuppertal, Germany, Gisela was raised by her grandparents, August and Anna Dippel. As a student in Germany, she studied and worked in the textile industry. In 1947, Gisela was able to join and live with her mother, Hildegard Dippel, in the USA starting her new life in the Bronx, NY. In 1949 Gisela graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Hospital for Joint Disease School of Practical Nursing, a career she had always hoped to pursue as a child. She practiced nursing full-time at Northern Westchester Hospital between 1950 to 1959 and then until 1967 as a private nurse. Her area of specialty was pediatrics as she loved caring for children.
On New Year’s Eve of 1957 Gisela met the love of her life Hans R. Carlson. It was love at first sight! On October 11th of that same year the two were married and began their marriage of 56 years. As a couple the two loved to dance, take walks together, and spend time with their family and friends. Hans passed away in May of 2015.
Gisela is survived by her children Birgitta (Jeremiah) Brophy of Margaretville, NY, Rolf (Cheryl) Carlson of Amherst, NH, Erika (Paul) LaVoie of Newport Center, VT and grandchildren Julia and Jacob Brophy, Ashley Carlson, Anna (Karthik) Loganathan, Alexandra (Peter) Dadian, Brooke Carlson, George Carlson, Ethan (Morgan) LaVoie and Cassandra LaVoie.
In her “spare time”, Oma, as she was lovingly referred to by her grandchildren, loved to knit, crochet, bake, take care of and do for others. She was very proud of her family and blessed to have attended each and every grandchild’s high school graduation. Gisela was loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday from 3PM to 7PM. Funeral Services will be at Church of the Magdelene Pocantico Hills on Monday at 10:00 AM with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Jude’s Children Hospital, under the Gift Fund: Gisela Carlson, would be appreciated.
