George E. Hongach, a lifelong resident of Sleepy Hollow died June 30, 2021 at the age of 78. George was born in North Tarrytown on November 17, 1943 and was the son of Andrew and Marion Delamater Hongach.
He worked as an Electrical Engineer for General Motors for many years. He also had owned gas stations and auto repair shops in the two villages including Broadway Auto Repair in North Tarrytown and Power Test in Tarrytown. In his ‘retirement’ he worked as a security guard for Maryknoll Fathers in Ossining and had just retired from that position.
George will always be remembered as an avid hunter. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1042 in Sleepy Hollow. He had been a member of Fire Patrol Rescue 12 of the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department and he had been a TNT Baseball Coach.
George is survived by his daughter Barbara ‘Bobbie’ (Nelson) Hongach Soto and his son George (Chris) Hongach, Jr. as well as his grandchildren Kayla and Jordan. George is also survived by his brothers and sisters Willie, Marion, Susan and Mike. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Sles) in 2001 and his sister Bea and brother Andy.
Visitation will be on Friday July 9 from 4PM to 8PM at Coffey Funeral Home where services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM followed by interment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
