The family of Filomena Fallacaro is deeply saddened to announce her passing on June 26, 2026. Born on May 3, 1929, to Thomas and (Maria) Theresa (Rombaldi) Fallacaro in North Tarrytown, NY, Filomena lived a long life filled with laughter, generosity, and civic duty to the village she resided in. She was the youngest of six siblings: Frank, Ludovico (Dick), Rafaela (Lee)Verdi, Nicolo, and Serafina (Sarah) Ceconi. A lifelong resident of North Tarrytown, now Sleepy Hollow, she left a legacy of public service as Village Clerk for over sixty years, beginning in 1953, additionally serving as interim Registrar and also, stenographer, for village meetings. She was an avid member of the North Tarrytown/ Sleepy Hollow Seniors. In her younger years, she’d love to travel, embarking on cruises to Bermuda and Italy, as well as vacations to Florida and Atlantic City.

Taking her around town to get her hair done or sitting down in a restaurant, would inevitably garner a plethora of people stopping by to say hello. True celebrity status; she brought a smile to so many. Her signature garnished multitudes of birth (and death) certificates in the village. She was honored for her civic duty by Senator Greg Ball in September 2013, as among the “22 Women of Distinction” in District 40 who entered his Hall of Fame.

Beyond this status was her undying devotion to family; she was a caregiver for many of her siblings…”la famiglia.” Although she never married, and had no children, “Aunt Fil,” as she was known to so many, treated her nieces, nephews, and their children, as her very own. You didn’t even have to be related; all those that came in contact with her were welcomed with open arms. Generous to a fault, you could never leave her house without being fed profusely, and even then she’d try to send you home with care packages. What was hers was immediately yours, too. No amount of protest would help; it was far easier to acquiesce. 

She possessed an outstanding sense of humor. We'd tease her that she was a stubborn Taurus, “gabbadost,” and she’d smile sweetly and innocently, and say, “Gee, I wonder where I got that from?” A lifelong Yankee fan, she’d regularly follow (and animatedly comment on) the games, balancing the sports channel with the Hallmark Channel and Food Network. True to her Southern Italian lineage, she loved her seafood: lobster rolls, crab cakes, scallops, and crab legs. Our dear, sweet Aunt Fil, “Ti vogliamo bene,” to which she'd always answer, “Anche io.” 

Visitation will be held at the Coffey Funeral Home, 91 N. Broadway, Tarrytown, NY from 4:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with a mass of Christian burial at the Church of St. John Paul II at Immaculate Conception on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at 11:15 AM, at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 540 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY.
