Evelyn Helen Doyle, born in the Pennybridge section of Tarrytown, NY on December 16, 1929, to John and Mary Zelyez, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn met and married her husband John in 1950; they had been married 58 years when John passed away in 2008. When her youngest was in school full-time she went back to the workplace to work for Nagel Real Estate as a secretary, but her long-term job was with Johnson and Gunther Engineers as an office manager to the principal engineers.
Evelyn was well known for her creativity, from sewing her daughters’ clothes, to reupholstering couches and chairs, to knitting hats, scarves, and blankets. Her other passion was finding “that” bargain. In 1976, John and Evelyn made a big change to their lives and moved to New Milford, Connecticut. Evelyn continued to commute to Tarrytown until the early 90’s when one of the partners retired. Their favorite vacation spot was Orleans on Cape Cod. She loved walking on the beach and collecting shells. In retirement, they took many trips to Notre Dame, John’s alma mater, Maine, the Carolinas, and Florida where they visited their daughter Darcy and son-in-law Dan. Evelyn was a long-time parishioner and founding member of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, in New Milford.
Evelyn leaves behind, her son Kevin, daughter Sharon Berger (Donnie), son Jack Doyle (Liz) and daughter Darcy Conrod (Dan), granddaughters Brit Berger (Brian Buch), Lacey Groark (Brian), twin great granddaughters, Molly and Riley Groark, great-niece Kristin Doyle, sister Joan Dwyer, and was pre-deceased by her brother John and sister Maria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on November 4, 2023, at The Church of the Transfiguration, Tarrytown NY. Following the service, she will be laid to rest with her husband John at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
