Emma (Scipioni) Spagnoli

Emma Spagnoli, of Ossining, NY, formerly of Sleepy Hollow, NY passed away peacefully in the early morning of November 18th, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Emma was born in Joef, France on September 26, 1928 and was raised in the small hilltop town of Camarda, Italy. She married her husband, Antonio, in Camarda in 1951. With their daughter, Ida, they followed their American dream and immigrated to the United States in 1953 but never forgot their Italian roots. When their second daughter, Lena, was born in America, their family was complete. With Antonio they built a wonderful, prosperous life with family and friends which included two grandchildren and two beautiful great grandchildren whom she loved and who loved her.

Emma was a strong, gentle, loving woman who nurtured family and friends in her simple way of giving. The coffee pot was always ready for anyone who would visit to sit and talk. The meals she prepared for family and friends were memorable, especially her homemade pasta and lasagna. She was always making more than was needed so there was enough for her guests to take home. The first thing she would ask you when you visited was: “Did you eat?” It was her way of showing love. No one left her home without eating or drinking coffee.

She would meet a complete stranger and within a few minutes know their life history. Anyone who met her loved her simple and genuine ways.

She is survived by her daughters, Eda Spagnoli (John), Lena O’Neill (Andrew); her grandchildren Jennifer O’Neill (Brian), James O’Neill (Cristina); her great grandchildren Liam O’Neill and Josephine O’Neill; her  sisters-in-law Angela Scipioni and Olga Scipioni; brother-in-law Carlo Gerlanc, and many nieces and nephews and many friends both in the United States and in Italy. She will be deeply missed and remain in our hearts forever.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Antonio, her brothers Gesualdo Scipioni and Antonio Scipioni, and her sister Marta (Francesca) Gerlanc.

Calling hours will be held at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown, New York on Sunday,  November 21st from 3PM to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 22 at St. Augustine Church in Ossining, New York at 10AM.
