Emilia Rosa Martins Direitinho, 88, of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow died June 2, 2021. Emilia was born in Serafa͂o, Fafe, Portugal, on January 17, 1933 and was the daughter of Hilario and Albertina Rosa Fernandes Martins. She came to the United State as a young woman and settled in North Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow where she raised her family. She became the matriarch of the family assisting with her parents and siblings coming to settle in the area. Emilia worked hard her whole life first as a dressmaker in Tarrytown and later working for Mallory Battery in North Tarrytown. She was a founding member of the Portuguese American Cultural Center in Tarrytown.

In recent years she would spend her time between Tarrytown, Palm Coast, FL and Salreu, Estarreja, Portugal. And although she loved to travel, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by her children Aldina Direitinho Homem married to Armando Jorge Homem and Mario Martins Direitinho who is married to Jennifer Joanne Direitinho. She was a loving grandmother of Jonathan Direitinho Homem, Elizabeth (David, Jr.) Colasurdo, Natalie Homem, Joseph Direitinho and Christopher Direitinho. She was also a loving great-grandmother of Katia Colasurdo. She had also developed a close relationship with Michaela Downs who is Jennifer’s daughter. Emilia is also survived by her brothers Jose Martins and Maciel Martins as well as her sisters Soledade Rodrigues and Gloria Armorim,

. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Ventura DaSilva Direitinho as well as her brother Armando Martins and her sister Maria Martins Goncalves,

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Friday from 3pm to 7pm. Her Funeral Mass will be on Saturday at St. Teresa of Avila Church at 9:00 followed by entombment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
