Elvira (Segreti) Commisa Obituary
It is with deep sadness that Elvira Segreti Commisa has passed on January 7, 2026. She was the devoted wife of Sam Commisa, beloved mother of Bernadette and Rebecca, and son-in-law James Salvatore. Elvira was the daughter of Francesco and Rosina Segreti, and the loving sister of Anna Rose Segreti Daniele. Elvira was also the aunt of Gregory, Susan, Jeanette, Mimi, Bruno, Becki and Stacy, great aunt to Sal, Rebecca, Jacob, Jennifer, Joey, and an irreplaceable friend to countless many. Elvira died surrounded by her daughters and was 93 years old.
She was born in the Bronx and grew up on Arthur Avenue where her father was a pastry chef at Delillo’s and her mother was a homemaker. When she was fifteen, Vira moved to Pittsburgh to live with cousins for a short time before entering the convent in 1949. She became an elementary school teacher and inspired students with her patience, love, and dedication. She would eventually leave the convent and later meet and marry Sam Commisa, making Tarrytown their lifelong home. During that time, she raised her two daughters and worked for Early Intervention at the Westchester County Department of Health in New Rochelle. Elvira worked tirelessly to help many families obtain much needed therapies for their children.
She left a legacy of service to others, devotion to family and friends, and deep faith and compassion for others in need. She will always be remembered for her food, parties, delicious baked goods, and her gentle way of reaching out to everyone in her life.
Her funeral mass will be held at the Church of Transfiguration in Tarrytown on Tuesday, January 13th at 10:30am and the burial will directly follow the mass at St. Raymond’s Old Cemetery in the Bronx.
