Edward Michael Bernabei Obituary
Edward Bernabei, 73, passed away after a courageous six-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Ed was a generous, kind, and deeply loving man — steady, wise, and endlessly supportive of the people he cared for. He was the kind of person who showed up, listened thoughtfully, and made others feel seen and valued. To know him was to feel supported.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Miriam, and a proud, loving father to his daughter, Leah, who was the center of his world. He is also survived by his sister, Lauretta Frankel, his brother-in-law, Edward Frankel, and their children and grandchildren, all of whom he held close in heart and spirit.
Ed dedicated his career to education as a beloved math teacher and department chair at Sleepy Hollow High School, where he shaped countless lives for over 20 years, with patience, clarity, and quiet encouragement. Teaching was not just his profession, but a reflection of who he was — thoughtful, fair, and deeply invested in helping others succeed.
In retirement, Ed discovered a love of fitness, embracing strength and movement with the same determination he brought to every chapter of his life. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he loved most, finding joy in connection, conversation, and simply being together.
Even in illness, Ed showed extraordinary courage and grace. His strength throughout his battle with cancer was a testament to his character and left a lasting impression on everyone who walked beside him during that difficult time.
Ed will be remembered for his kindness, his wisdom, his generosity, and the unwavering love he gave so freely. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the JCC of Tarrytown, a place Ed loved deeply and where he found daily joy through fitness and community. Contributions may be made in his memory through the following link, by selecting his name in the donation dropdown.
