Donald Michael Doherty, formerly of Tarrytown, died July 21, 2023, at the age of 74. Born in Tarrytown on October 13, 1948, he was the son of John A. and Bernice V. (Scope) Doherty. Don was a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School. He went on to serve in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam in the late 1960s.
Don attended college and trade school and spent many years as an auto and heavy equipment mechanic, most notably with Croton Point Sanitary Landfill and the Town of Greenburgh.
While living in Tarrytown, Don was a business owner of J&D Excavators and spent 20 years as a volunteer firefighter with Consolidated Engine Company of the Tarrytown fire department. In 1986, he and his family left the area and settled in North Carolina for about 20 years before eventually retiring to Williamsburg Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Ann (Baker), his sons Donald M. Jr. (Erica), Thomas (Kate), Michael (Stephanie), and his daughter Susan (Steven). Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren Natalie, Sarah Kate, Amanda, and Jacob. He was predeceased by his sister Judith Ann.
