Domenico Sincero 1925-2019

Dr. Domenico Sincero passed away on October 19, 2019 at the age of 93 surrounded by family and loved ones. He is survived by his beloved partner Rebecca Rigau, his children Robert, Jennifer, Stephen and Jill, grandchildren Robert, Lauren, Jessica, William and Abigail, his brother Renato, sister-in-law Ersilia, nieces and nephews Valentina, Francesca, Rosalie, Frank, Louise, Massimo, Davide and Ciara, and his four-legged boss, Maribella. Domenico grew up in Naples, Italy, and graduated cum laude from Universita Di Napoli Medical School. He came to the United States to pursue a career in medicine, attended NYU Medical School and graduated cum laude in 1958. After residencies in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Domenico launched a private practice in Tarrytown, NY, that served his community for the next sixty-plus years. Through his private practice and his participation in the development of Phelps Memorial Hospital, as well as his work at such establishments as Cabrini Nursing Home, Dobbs Ferry Hospital, Pocantico Hills School, and Jersey City Medical Center he served generation after generation of families, delivering countless babies and the babies of those babies. He took the term “family practitioner” to heart and was well known for his kindness, skill, accessibility and attentiveness. He was an old-school family physician who made house calls with a little black bag up until his retirement. He was not only a skilled doctor, but an ear that listened, a shoulder that supported and a heart that offered gentle advice. He went out of his way to make everyone around him feel welcome and valued - the term most often applied to him was “a true gentleman”. Domenico loved tennis, sports cars, building, and fixing, his houses, yellow sweaters and cooking for his family and friends, especially his famous Chicken ala Domenico.
