Diana L. Walpuck, a lifelong resident of Tarrytown, NY, died on May 8, 2020, at the age of 83, in her home, surrounded by loved ones. Diana is survived by her three sons, Robert, John, and David Walpuck, her sister, Evelyn Laird Buonanno, eight grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, John Walpuck, and her beloved brother, Peter Laird.
Born in Tarrytown on April 29, 1937 to Robert and Isabel Weeks Laird (who passed away in 1940), Diana was raised by Robert and Hazel Newman Laird. She attended local schools and graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1955. Diana married John Walpuck Jr., whom she first met in front of Johnny’s Pizzeria on Main Street in Tarrytown in 1956, on April 4, 1959 at Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown. She and John were happily married for 55 years, and everyone knew and admired them as a dynamic and active team for all those years.
Diana lived a full, long life. Her characteristic vibrancy, beauty, giving spirit, and zest for life will be forever remembered and cherished by so many lives she touched. Diana’s essence was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, committed to sharing what she had. She enjoyed and appreciated every moment spent with a long list of immediate and extended family members and dear friends whom she affected profoundly. Diana was also very active within the Tarrytown community throughout her life, touching many through various volunteer activities and associations with local groups, including Tarry Hall, Tarrytown Seniors, Reform Church of Tarrytown, Christ Church of Tarrytown, Transfiguration Church, and through her support of her husband’s commitment to the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corp. Diana will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held at a future date to remember and celebrate Diana’s life.
