Denny Peter Jacobson

                    January 10, 1939 Berlin, Germany – September 8, 2024 Tarrytown, NY, USA

Denny Jacobson was born in Berlin in January 1939 of Jewish parents during the Nazi regime. The family left Berlin for England in that same year, though several members who were unable to leave perished in the Holocaust. In England, the family ultimately settled in Epsom, Surrey where Denny attended Epsom College as a member of Rosebery House (1952-1957). Denny gained a BSc in Engineering from University College, London. In 1961 Denny joined IBM and worked for the company in various capacities (systems engineer, data center manager, product planning) and locations (the UK, Jamaica, Mexico, Italy, France and the USA) until his retirement in 1997 and subsequently as a consultant. During his more than 50 year career with IBM he pushed to have software recognized and incorporated in the overall business structure of the company. In Mexico in the 1960s he met his future wife, Françoise Parent, who survives him. In addition to his wide-ranging work, Denny was involved in many volunteer activities including board positions at the Parkinson's Unity Walk and Philharmonia Virtuosi and he participated for many years in the speakers bureau for the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center in Westchester where he spoke to school groups about the Holocaust, and contributed to many causes, including the Holocaust Memorial Museum and Compeer, a local "one on one" support organization. Denny's travels around the world generated a love of cooking, languages and sailing while classical music played an abiding role in Denny's life. If you talked to Denny on the phone, particularly after an accident which rendered him paralyzed from the neck down in 2017, you could always hear a symphony in the background. In addition to his wife Françoise and her family, Denny leaves a brother Ralph, nieces Ruth and Helen in the UK, a nephew Dan Jacobson in Canada, and many devoted friends around the world.
