Clare M. Janos, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025 at the age of 100. A longtime resident of Tarrytown, Clare was born in Yonkers on June 15, 1924. She was the daughter of Francis and Camilla (Bernacki) Pleva. She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Yonkers. In 1949, she married Michael Janos, Jr. in Yonkers. In 1959, the couple along with their young son Michael relocated to Tarrytown.
Clare, known to her grandchildren as Nanny, loved to play bingo, do crossword puzzles, spend time at the Tarrytown Senior Center, and go to Sunday brunch with her friends. She also loved to spend time on the Senior Van with her son and driver, Michael Janos III. Clare’s grandchildren enjoyed being with her, whether it was taking her to the nail salon, going out for pizza or watching the Yankee game at home on Sheldon Ave.
Clare is survived by her daughter-in-law Tricia and her grandchildren Allison, Laura and Michael as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Michael, her son Michael, her brother Walter Pleva and her sister Agnes Kopchik.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday February 2 from 2PM to 5PM. Her Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10:30 at Transfiguration Church followed by interment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
