Charles Francis Koval Obituary
Charles F. Koval, age 82, passed away 1 April 2025 at PAM Specialty Hospital of Corpus Christie North. He was born on 19 February 1943 to George Michael Koval and Anna Mary Koval in Tarrytown, NY.
Charlei attended Catholic schools in his early years and graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1960. He attended several colleges after graduation. Finally, he attended Saint Leo University, Saint Leo, Florida, for two years.
Due to Charlie’s disabilities, he never settled into a working career. He became his Father’s and Mother’s constant companion and 24 hours a day care giver. He loved to read his books, mostly Science Fiction and Romantic books. He would sit on the floor to read a book and have the television on as background. It was difficult to distract him! His book collection eventually filled a bedroom.
Charlie was religious and attended Catholic Church. Very early in life, Charlie became an Alter Server and assistant to the Priest in the Mass at Holy Cross Church in North Tarrytown, NY. However, his service extended past his Elementary School days into adult years. There simply was not enough young boys interested in being Alter Servers in the church. He was a member of the Tarrytown Knights of Columbus. After Holy Cross closed, Charlie and his mother joined Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown.
Anna and Charlie wanted to be close to Barbara Koval Reischman, Charlie’s sister. They moved from Sleepy Hollow, NY, in June 2012 to Corpus Christi, TX. When Anna and Charlie arrived in Corpus Christi, Michael and Barbara introduced them to the Corpus Christi Senior Center. There they were fed lunch daily 5 days a week. The beginning price when they arrived was $1.50 per day, eventually going up to $2.50 per day. There were lots of Seniors there daily with all kinds of activities for them. Charlie’s favorites were doing chair exercises with an instructor and playing Bingo and Chalupa (a Mexican Bingo). He also made lots of friends there and even helped the staff serve lunch. He was well liked at the Senior Center.
When in Corpus Christi, both Charlie and Anna faithfully attended the Saturday evening Mass at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church.
Charlie was predeceased in death by his Grandparents, Stephan Imirich Fucheck and Agnes Margaret Shroba, and Charles John Koval and Anna Barbara Varga. Also predeceased by his Father and Mother, George Michael Koval and Anna Mary Fucheck, and by his younger sister Ann Marie Koval.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Koval Reischman and her husband Michael Reischman from Corpus Christie, Barbara’s children Michael Gene Reischman, Atlanta, GA; Richard Charles Reischman, Anaheim, CA; Mary Elizabeth Teoh, Austin, TX and Mary’s children Liam Michael Teoh and Kaylee Elizabeth Teoh.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on October 16, 2025 followed by interment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
