Carolann (Burke) Roussel Obituary

In Loving Memory of Carolann Burke Roussel
May 20, 1941 – February 6, 2025

Carolann Burke Roussel passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family. Carolann was born on May 20, 1941 in Riverdale, NY. She was the cherished daughter of Patrick and Anna Burke and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Roussel.

She is survived by her daughter, Megan Roussel Yox, and son-in-law, Matthew, along with her three adoring grandchildren, Owen, Maeve, and Finnian, who brought her immense joy. She is survived by her devoted sister, Margaret Burke Jones, and was predeceased by her dear sister, Dorothy Burke Odierna. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Carolann and Louis met while working at New York University (NYU). After married, they moved to Cortlandt Manor where they spent the majority of their lives. Throughout her career, she worked at several respected institutions including Hudson Institute, Hudson Strategy Group, and Marsh and McLennan. Most recently Carolann moved to Sleepy Hollow, NY where she continued to shine her light on others.

Carolann’s Irish heritage was a deep part of who she was. Her love for Ireland was boundless, and she took great pride in sharing that passion with others. Over the years, she made multiple journeys to the homeland, traveling with different groups of family and friends to visit her Irish family, the country’s rich history, and breathtaking landscapes. These trips were a source of great joy for her, and they deepened her connection to her roots.

A lifelong animal lover, Carolann had a special place in her heart for cats. Their gentle presence and companionship were a source of comfort to her, and she lovingly cared for her feline friends throughout her life.

She was an avid gardener, finding solace and satisfaction tending to her garden. Whether cultivating flowers, plants, or vegetables, her garden was a place of peace and beauty that mirrored her nurturing spirit. Carolann had a true appreciation for antiques, collecting treasures that told stories of the past and adding character to her home. In recent years, she also discovered a new passion—painting. A budding artist, she took great pleasure in expressing herself through her artwork.

Carolann looked forward to nothing more than her annual summer beach vacations, where she found peace and joy by the water, surrounded by family and friends.

Carolann’s legacy is one of love, creativity, and a deep connection to both family and heritage. Her warm heart and lively spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

A wake will be held on Monday, February 10th from 4-8pm at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 11th at 9:30 AM at Church of the Magdalene in Sleepy Hollow, NY.
