Beverly Rose Jansen passed away peacefully in her sleep November 3, 2022.
She was born and raised in North Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow on March 28,1937 to Mary and Peter Petcoff, graduating in the last class of the original North Tarrytown High School. She was the first in her family to go to college, earning her Master’s degree from Albany State in 1959. Shortly thereafter she married into the Air Force which began her worldwide adventures for the next three decades before returning to Sleepy Hollow for her last 30 years.
Family was everything to Beverly. While she was an only child, she thought of her cousins as siblings. She looked forward to the annual rendezvous in Wildwood at the end of each summer. There wasn’t a family get-together that she missed. She knew her extensive family tree like the back of her hand and was proud of her heritage. For her 80th birthday, she took her family to Bulgaria for an ancestry trip.
In addition to raising her family around the world, she went on numerous cruises with family and friends, she chaperoned a trip to China, she visited Australia and much, much more. Most recently she celebrated her 85th birthday in Costa Rica with her family. One of her greatest joys was swimming in the ocean. Even though we all took a few tumbles in the waves, this is how Beverly liked to live her life, always up for an adventure with a big smile on her face.
While Beverly was certainly a queen bee, she also was the busiest of bees. If you stopped by you were sure to find her cooking, arranging flowers or organizing something.
She was always interested in learning, which showed in how well she adapted to technology. She completed a PowerPoint class at the library “because you never know, I might want to use it.” You could always expect an email from Beverly in your inbox, especially her annual Christmas letter.
Beverly was an active community member serving many clubs and organizations: former President of the Historical Society, Kykuit docent, Co-Vice President of Little Gardens of the Tarrytowns (hosting their annual fundraising garage sale with huge success), to name a few. She was a book club member, avid bridge player, artist and gardener. She enjoyed water aerobics at the Tarrytown YMCA, JCC and Mt. Pleasant Pool. She was dedicated to supporting the Gold Star Mothers memorial.
Beverly loved to help others and giving was her greatest joy. Her generosity knew no limits, always helping those in need and never expecting anything in return.
She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Immaculate Conception. She lived by the Golden Rule "So in everything, do unto others what you would have them do to you” Matthew 7:12. She had a big heart and truly loved unconditionally; caring about everyone and never giving up on anyone.
She is survived by her children: Deborah (Kenneth) von Glahn and John (Heidi) Jansen; grandchildren: Kenneth von Glahn IV, Rachel (Jonathan) Kava, Russell (Coral) von Glahn, Lauren von Glahn and Danielle (Ian) Anderson; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Harper and Wiley Kava and Blair von Glahn; and former spouse, John Jansen. Last but not least her dog, Maxine Too.
