Steven A. Shroba, 62, a native of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. and most recently Putnam County, N.Y. went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Steven was the loving son of the late Margaret (Meszaros) Shroba and the late Vincent S. Shroba, and caring brother to the late Vincent P. Shroba, all of Sleepy Hollow.

He is survived by his beloved sister, Ann Marie (Shroba) Smith, her husband Dan Smith, and his two nephews, Trevor Smith and Ryan Smith, all of Dutchess County, N.Y.

Steven was known for his wry if sometimes brash sense of humor, big laugh and genuine compassion for people. He was always willing to lend a hand, a listening ear, or whatever was needed to family, friends and even strangers. Steven was a startlingly generous and honest man who regularly sought ways to encourage and help others.

A lifetime outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing, often with his faithful dog, Maggie. He was at home in the wildest of the outdoors.

Steven owned his own tree work business in Sleepy Hollow for many years before taking a job in corrections in Dutchess County and later Putnam County, work he greatly enjoyed.

Watching his nephews, Trevor and Ryan, grow into the wonderful young men they’ve become was a constant source of pride and joy in his life. He adored them, and they him.

His cousin, Charles Shroba of Putnam County, was like a brother to Steven. They enjoyed one another’s company and supported each another tremendously over the past few years.

Although he leaves a space that will never be filled, family and friends know there is a very special star that shines down eternally on all those he loved, and all those that loved him.

The family will receive friends at Coffey Funeral Home, Tarrytown, NY on Friday, December 8 from 4 pm to 8 pm.   In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lustgarten Foundation or the Make a Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
