Sr. Mary Heyser, RSHM, died Nov 4, 2019, at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY.
Born in New York City on August 6, 1940, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown, NY in 1964.
Sr. Mary’s early ministries were at St. Anne’s School, Garden City, NY; Cormaria Retreat House, Sag Harbor, NY; and Marymount Manhattan College, NYC.
She was a pastoral minister in parishes in Pueblo and Grand Junction, CO; Pastoral Coordinator of St. Francis of Assisi, Rocky Mount, VA; and a campus minister at Ferrum College, Ferrum, VA, and Dominican College, Blauvelt, NY. She had pastoral and social service ministries in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
She was a provincial councillor of the Eastern American Province of the RSHM; Director of Catholic Relief Services, Diocese of Venice, FL; and Alumnae Chaplain for Marymount College of Fordham University. She worked with anti-trafficking organizations in the NYC area and in immigration advocacy in Immokalee, FL.
She is survived by her sister, Sally Heyser Ryan, numerous nieces and nephews, and by the members of her religious community.
Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Wake Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, 4:00 - 7:30 pm, Vigil Service 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, 10:30 am.
