Sr. Bernardine Hoban RSHM, 89, died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, September 8, 2019.
Born in Co. Mayo, Ireland, to Thaddeus and Winifred Hastings Hoban, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1947.
She taught at Gerard School. NYC; St. Bridget School, Richmond, VA; St. Andrew School, Sag Harbor, NY; and Marymount School, London, England; was principal at St. John School, McLean, VA and St. Anne School, Garden City, NY; and was superior of the Sacred Heart of Mary Community, Rolling Meadows, IL. She taught and was in charge of boarding students at Marymount School, Paris, France.
She served in Zimbabwe for more than 30 years as teacher and spiritual director in Mutare and Harare and as Directress of Novices of the RSHM Novitiate in Chinoyi.
She is survived by nieces and nephews in Ireland and England and by the members of her religious community.
Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Wake Wednesday September 11, 4:00 - 7:30 pm, Vigil Service 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, September 12, 10:30 am.
